I Hope My Dad will go to Heaven!

One day I asked my dad an important question, "Dad, are you going to heaven when you die?"  He thought for a minute then replied,
"Well I hope so."
I wasn't convinced so I dug a little deeper.   "What qualifies you for heaven?" I asked.  My father gave the classic answer.  He said:  "I'm going to heaven because I'm a good person."
This confirmed my fear.  Dad was a hard worker all his life.  He grew up Presbyterian and took us to church when we were kids.  But, like millions of well meaning Christians, dad  never connected the dots on the Gospel message.   
Hey I was clueless myself.  Like the majority of my friends, I didn't really get serious with God until I was 19. Dad was pretty much out of my life by then. (It's a long story)   But when I was married and had kids of my own, it dawned on me one day that I needed to reconnect and have a talk with him.   He was getting closer to that day when he would have to stand before God and give an account for his life.

I was genuinely concerned that he didn't really understand the Gospel message and what qualifies you for heaven.

So I made it a point to have that awkward, "what happens after you die?" conversation with my dad.  One thing that inspired me was that I had a secret weapon.   You see, I made my living as a TV producer, and a few years prior  I had the good fortune of making a video called Are You Going to Heaven?  Doing the research for that video, we looked at all the best available information and also evaluated all the most common answers to the heaven question.  I was absolutely convinced that "I'm a good person" is not what qualifies anybody for heaven.
Do you know why? Do you realize that among your family, friends, and co-workers there are many who would give the same answer as my dad.  If you know anything about the Gospel, you know that being a good person does not qualify you for heaven.

Bottom line, when I look back on my life, i know that I had the priviledge of making the Heaven video with a whole bunch of talented people.  And we were able to make it available to people we love, including my own father.    My dad, like so many others, responded well to the video,  he came to know Christ in a way he had not known before.  Just a year or so later we got a call that he had died of a heart attack in his apartment.   Losing a parent is always hard.  But I knew for sure that I did the best job I could presenting the Gospel to him.  And I'm as certain as I can be that he is in heaven today.

I just finished watching the Heaven Program, and it has blessed my soul. I'm a Christian and it was a good reminder of what I need to do to get into heaven. I was just having a conversation with the Lord as I was making my way to work and I was asking him to take away from me thoughts that are of the world. When you know the Lord and have a relationship with him, he begins to show you things that are not like him. If you are truly a yielded vessel, the Lord with be able to work on things in you and purge out your ungodly ways. I believe all that you said in this program was accurate and I thank GOD for you and your wife. I will forward this on. This is a great tool of evangelism.

To whom it may concern:  I am not a good writer. I speak Chinese (Cantonese) and Vietnamese. I have three kids (Aaron 7-year old, Austin 5-yr old, and Melinda 4-year old). I have a wonderful husband who has a great person inside of him. We both are in Buddish. I have been discovered the Jesus is a powerful word. I am an atheist. I have tried Buddhism, as the idea of science coexisting with reality appealed to me, very much so. Still the idea of beings transcending reality repelled me from it. I watched the whole video, and now I don't know what to think.
